What you need to know to become a Judge

Recognizing the great need to encourage and mentor Latino and Latina attorneys to pursue judicial careers, La Raza Lawyers and Latinas in the law we presented a half-day seminar on "What you need to become a Judge." The program was held at the Grace Courtroom at USD school of Law on Saturday April 8, 2006. This was a great opportunity to learn first hand from experienced judges what you need to do to further your judicial application or run for election. Our keynote speaker was Californina Supreme Court Justice Carlos Moreno. Panel presenters included federal and state court Latino and Latina judges.

Todd Irby, Chair of the State Bar Commision on Judicial Nominees Evaluation (JNE) and Anna M Jauregui, Former JNE Commissioner, talked about the State Bar's Judicial evaluation and rating process. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mildred Escobedo, the first Latina elected judge to the Superior Court of Los Angeles County,  addressed the pros and cons of using the election process to obtain a judgeship.  You may request materials by sending a letter requesting this information to La Raza Lawyers, P.O.
